A morning visit to Helmsley is followed by a stop in Pickering and then a ride over the moors to Whitby where you spend a couple of hours before returning home.
Helmsley
Helmsley is a small market town with real charm, on the southern edge of the North York Moors . The town has a Castle, whose remains still tower above the town.
Pickering
Pickering is a small town packed with a wealth of heritage. As far as small towns in North Yorkshire go there are few that boast a castle, a heritage railway and a church with world renowned frescos.
Across the moors to Whitby
Just a short trip across the breath-taking Moors from Pickering, you will come to the seaside town of Whitby. Situated on the east coast of Yorkshire. Its East Cliff is home to the ruins of Whitby Abbey. Bram Stoker arrived in Whitby, at the end of July 1890. After seeing the dramatic abbey ruins, the graveyard and learning about the Dmitry shipwreck the idea of Dracula was born. In 1897 Dracula was published.
